The Fat Lazy Cat

We bought two rabbits
and the cat was asleep
I screamed
and the cat was asleep
It was my brothers birthday
and the cat was asleep
There was a party
and the cat was asleep
The All Blacks won the Rugby World Cup
and the cat was asleep
I went on a vacation
and the cat was asleep
The mouse ran past the cat
and the cat woke up

My Grand Parents

This is my Grand Parents and me.But I call them Mum and Dad because they raised me not my parents.Sadly my Grandpa died two years ago because he was very sick. When we went to the hospital the doctors said they couldn't do anything to help him. I was very sad and happy at the same time. I was happy because I got to see all my Tongan cousins that I never knew about but sad because I would miss him. When my Aunt took me to her boss so I could calm down I cried and cried and made her shirt wet but she didn't mind. Now I know that I have lots of cousins. I asked my Nana if they could sleep over until the funeral was over and she said yes but they had to ask their Mum first too. When the funeral was over my whole family and I went to Favona church for my Grandpa's funeral. Everybody was crying and grieving. I sat in front of my Grandpa with my Aunt. I really miss my Grandpa.

Sir Joseph H**ker's sea lion

Today I've been studying about the H**ker's Sea Lion. The H**ker's Sea Lion's is named after Sir Joseph H**ker. He was a British scientist who went to Antarctica and the southern New Zealand islands to study Botany over 100 years ago. The H**ker's Sea lion only lives in New Zealand waters, is one of the most endangered. They are called sea lions because of the thick mane around the neck of the male. They are marine mammals and belong to a group of seals called 'eared seals' because they have small ear lobes. The bull is much heavier than the cow. He can grow to a length of 3.25 meters and weigh over 4oo kg. The adult cow is about 2 meters in length and weighs up to 160 kg. The cow gives birth to its pup in a 'nursery area' with other females. At birth the male pup is much heavier than the female pup. The male pup has a dark coat and the female's coat is fair. There are only five species of sea lion in the world.

Maths time!

Today for maths I went on nzmaths which is a really good site. I played Pacifika patternes on geometry level 2. It helps you learn about rotational and reflection symmetry. There is a flower that you click on for help. The flower helps you learn about rotational symmetry. There is a plane that you also click on for help. But it helps you reflectional symmetry. I know now what reflectional and rotational symmetry. Learning about geometry is fun and is also cool.

Weta report

The New Zealand Giant Weta

Introduction
The Mahoenui reserve in the Waikato Region, is the home of some NZ Giant weta. These wonderful creatures have lived for over 190 million years  which is even older than the Tuataras.

Physical features
Female Giant wetas have a long ovipositor for the eggs to come out of. Their back legs are adapted to defend themselves and they also have ears on their knees.

Diet
They eat other small invertebrates. They also eat gorse flowers.

Habitat
Some Giant wetas live in the Waikato region, Mahoenui reserve.

Main threats
Their threat is rats because their big and the Giant wetas are smaller then them. Their main threat is fire because gorse flowers are highly flammable.

Behaviour features
Giant wetas are placid(gentle). But other wetas are not placid.

Conclusion
Giant wetas are great creatures to have in New Zealand. They are a treasure to us and they are protected from any predators in a Reserve.

The amazing zoo trip

Hooray!!!. Glenbrae school went to visit the zoo on Thursday 1st of September to study about animals and their habitats.

First we were put into groups of five. I was in my uncle's group with Joan, Anamanu, Nathaniel and Gabriel. But sadly, James was away. Next my uncle's group and I went to the Pridelands where we saw the giraffes, zebras, ostriches, rhinos and the springboks.

Afterwards we went to the kiwi house but unfortunately there were no kiwis. Then we begged my uncle if we could go to the lions and the flamingos.

Later we had a little snack. While we were having a snack we watched the elephants.

Lastly, we all met in front of the entrance of the zoo. We had to wait for Mrs Elia's group because I think they were a bit behind on their schedule.

Finally we hopped onto the bus. When we got to school we went to the hall then we left school and went home. I love the zoo because I like seeing new enclosures.

Comaring unit fractions

Today for maths I was on comparing unit fractions in nzmaths. You have to find out which bird ate the most. I made a prediction that Kiri had a bigger tea than Manu because I thought that a 1/4 is half of a 1/2. I like this website because it teaches me about fractions.

Mini beast

I've been working on mini beast since this morning. I am having a lot of fun going on a mini beast hunt around the school.I've found a lot of interesting mini beasts that I haven't heard of or even seen in my entire life time. Those mini beasts are  slaters, spittle bugs, earwigs and jumping spiders. I don't like spiders very much because they are creepy and wired. I like animals but not all animals because some are creepy and some are slimy. I learnt that mini beasts are small animals because mini means small and beast means animals. I love learning new things.

My inquiry picture

What am I?

I am one of the pillars the earth needs to survive. I am invisible. I don’t pollute the atmosphere. There is one tonne of me on your shoulders. I am made up of two different molecules. I can cause disasters by moving. I can make electricity. Trees help clean me. I help people dry there clothes. I help animals smell there food by caring it from place to place. I help plants scatter their seeds.
